Now, I know you have all been wondering where on earth the final week’s report on the bowls club league results has gone to. Wonder no more. The league secretaries, bless ‘em, have taken some time to put the info together. Your wait to find out how the major sports club in Parwich has done is ended.
You will all remember – indeed, who could forget – that in the penultimate week we had lost both our matches. Well, we came back with a vengeance and the regular visitors from outer space who support us really cheered. Well, whatever the galactic equivalent of cheering is.
Matlock Tuesday League.
Home – 4 September – Matlock Bath.
We managed to share the games two apiece. However, our scores overall were a little bit better than Matlock’s. Edith Rider, partnered as usual by Rick Manning, won comprehensively. If only we had a few more Ediths and Ricks. Anyway, we won by 74 to 69.
Last year we finished fourth from top, having won 9 matches. This year we finished fifth from the bottom, having won 13 matches. In the world of crown green bowls. it’s points that count, not wins. Statistics are fun, aren’t they?
Matlock Thursday Friendly League.
Home – Baslow – 6 September.
We do try very hard to win doubles games, but again this week we lost 59 points to 40. Having said that, Clara Evans and Harry Bunting had a really good win. The singles players came to our rescue again, winning by 88 points to 51, thereby giving us an overall win of 128 to 110. Anyone for doubles?
Last year, we finished just below half way in the league. This year, we finished exactly half way in sixth place.
It really would be nice to see more residents from the village playing and supporting the only regular team from Parwich. Why don’t people come? As I mentioned last time, Ashbourne Bowls Club have invited us to play indoor bowls again this year, starting on Monday 8 October. If you want a go, give a bowls club member a call.
It will be a great shame if the Bowls Club ceases, but unless we can get more new members for next year, I cannot see us managing to get a team together and keep the club going. Come on Parwich, don’t let the last regular club fail!
