Our ‘Weatherman in the Village’ says:
Well we got our colder snap at the end of this week as I forecasted last weekend. On my drive to work on Thursday morning there was no sign of any gritted roads – not even the A515, and sure enough, the Radio Derby travel reports were full of cars in ditches and general mayhem on the roads. Now I guess there are two sides to every issue, but at this time of year when there isn’t a build up of salt on the road surface from a winter of gritting, I really don’t understand why it takes so long to get the roads treated when even an amateur meteorologist can forecast a cold snap three days in advance. It’s a really important issue because people’s lives are put in real danger. So if anyone in the council road gritting department is reading this, it would be interesting to know why the gritting is apparently so tardy early in the winter season when it’s really needed most?
OK soapbox removed. On to this week’s outlook……
The changeable weather looks set to continue but temperatures are really starting to feel as though winter has arrived. Monday looks like being pretty unpleasant and we could have some sleet or wet snow overnight or early Monday. Probably Tuesday and Wednesday will be drier but there is always a possibility of precipitation with this weather pattern. It will be breezy and cold through the week.
