Could be tempting providence, but so far this year we have been playing really well. The weather however, has not been kind to us on quite a few match days. Tuesdays match was no exception.
Matlock Tuesday League.
Away – 14 May – Ashwood Park Buxton.
There were brass monkeys running round in packs on Tuesday night. It was freezing and throwing it down with rain. We start seasons quite well, but Ashwood have got off to an even better start. At the beginning of the match they were third in the division and we were about half way. We managed to share the four games, two each, with Edith and Rick playing their usual solid game and Dawn and Dot following suit. Our other two pairs unfortunately did not manage to win, although they kept trying. The final outcome was another win for us 67 to 62. This will hopefully keep us about half way in the division.
Next match – Home – Chatsworth B – 21 May 6.30pm.
Matlock Thursday Friendly League.
Away – Chatsworth B – 16 May.
Don’t let anybody else know, but before today’s match we were third in the league. The weather was a little kinder to us this afternoon. Having played our socks off in the doubles games last week, this week was unfortunately the complete opposite. Our pairs did not play badly, the opposition could do no wrong. We would have two or three bowls counting and the final ‘wood’ would come in form Chatsworth and take the shot. Before we knew anything we had lost the doubles 63 to 22. Not a true reflection of the games at all.
We do play quite well in the singles games and this week we excelled all our usual expectations. I have to say that you had to feel sorry for the opposition. Dawn won 15 to 0. Val won 15 to 1, Harry 15 to 5. The fight back was on! Although we only won one further game our point tally was 87 to us and 43 to Chatsworth. What a change around. The final score was therefore a win for us 109 to 106. We can’t keep this up can we?
Next match – Home – Matlock Bath – 23 May – 1.45pm.
No weekend matches this weekend, but if you fancy a go anytime give a member of the Club a call and we will meet up and ‘send a few down’.
