I did warn that this might happen when you switch off the few street lights that we have. Its not taken the thieves long to realise the situation
Our car was broken into twice parked right under the street light, the shed once I tend to think the light made it it easier in some ways.
I agree Karen. I lived in London, and in Boston USA, for many years (born and raised in Derbyshire however!) and despite the grossly excessive use of street-lighting in these places (impossible even to discern the stars, let alone the Milky Way) street crime, burglary, vehicle theft etc, was rampant. I do think in this context that those hostile to DCC’s popular, environmentally-friendly, street lighting policy invoke spurious argument in aid of their position – a position simply not supported by the evidence regarding the incidence of crime. Prior to this initiative, even Parwich emitted a noticeable amber glow into the night sky, visible from more than a few miles distant. Now, Parwich pollutes our night skies much less, and the glory of our Universe sparkles rather more. This is something to cherish.
The following has been received from the Police and added here by the Blog Team:

Police appeal for information after two thefts in Parwich.
A garden shed has been broken into at a property in Parwich between 9pm on Tuesday 6th August and 5.30pm on Wednesday 7th August. A green petrol lawn mower has been stolen. Crime number: 33097/13.
During the same period, an outdoor thermometer was stolen from outside a property on Smithy Lane, Parwich. Crime number: 33099/13 refers.
If you saw anything suspicious, have any information or CCTV nearby, please contact Derbyshire Police on 101.
Do we know if it was dark, and if the street lights were on or off, when these thefts occurred?
Some time during the day on both Tuesday and Wednesday I saw the same unfamiliar white van driving around the village, and thought it odd that the driver seemed to be looking for somewhere, but did not ask for directions.
My first instinct was to write down the number, but I thought to myself don’t be silly. My apologies to both households for not following my first thoughts, as then this van could at least be eliminated from the Police enquiries. (The very limited information I do have, times and locations, has been passed on to the Police, and of course may have no connection at all to these crimes.)
most burglars opperate between the hours of 12 midnight and 3am ( these are the ones that do not want to be caught) .one, because of peoples sleeping patterns and two because they have the cover of darkness
