Recycling Site
Parwich Parish Council contacted Derbyshire Dales District Council because of concerns regarding the closure of the “bring” site at The Sycamore.
Members of the Parish Council have been informed by the District Council that the Environment Committee decided last November to reduce the number of sites because of the big improvements brought about by the new household recycling scheme. Everything that can be recycled at bring sites can now be recycled at home.
The District Council do not dispute that the site is used but compared to many other sites the material quantities are low. The period between Christmas and New Year put extra pressure on sites because collections are reduced due to Bank Holidays, but residents have extra waste.
Where there are particular difficulties with access or storage for residents using the kerbside service, it is necessary for the contractor, Serco, to visit and discuss the options available. Assisted collections can also be offered for residents who cannot move containers if they meet the criteria. The Helpline number is 01629 761122.
Operating recycling sites is a duplication of the service offered at kerbside and therefore it is for the above reasons that the site will be removed and cleaned on Tuesday 21st January.
At our Parish Council meeting our local District Councillor was unable to attend. Questions were raised during the public speaking item. The Parish Council will again contact District Council, as Councillors are particularly concerned that for whatever reason there was no consultation period with both residents and the Parish Council.
There is an opportunity for residents to have a say on District’s spending at the next open Forum meeting at Ashbourne Leisure Centre on Monday 3rd February. The meeting starts at 7pm and anyone who can’t attend in person can email questions in advance to communityforum@derbyshiredales.gov.uk or via the District Council’s Facebook and Twitter pages @derbyshiredales.
