PARWICH CROWN GREEN BOWLS CLUB
What is the expression, ‘you can’t win them all’, well at least we won one of our two matches this week and the Thursday match went down to the wire as they say.
Matlock Tuesday bowls league.
Home – Bakewell – 15 April
Another good result following on from last week. Harry and John B were the best pair this week winning 21 -12. Rick and Edith both played really well and although the game was close, 21 – 16 to us, the outcome was never in doubt. Dawn and Sue provided us with our third game win coming in 21 – 15. Although we lost the final game sufficient points were accumulated to provide us with an excellent win 74 – 64.
Just as an aside, the league secretary is a bit of a stickler for having things absolutely correct. One team made 6 small errors on their score sheet and were fined 60 points. They had only won 56 in the game so they are now on minus 4. The next transgression we hear will result in deportation.
Because of holidays next week we are 4 players missing and we are having to call on everybody and anybody to make up the team. Don’t get too close to a Bowls Club member or you will be kidnapped to play for us.
STOP PRESS:- Details of the scores from the first two matches have just been received and PARWICH ARE TOP OF THE LEAGUE. Keep it to yourselves we don’t want to get too carried away.
Next match – Away – Matlock Bath – 22 April – 6.30pm.
Matlock Thursday Friendly League.
Away – Chatsworths – 17 April
Normally, as you avid readers of this riveting editorial will be aware, it has been known that we struggle in the doubles games in this League, well not this week. John H and Dennis had a really good win 21 – 11, and Ian and Harry also came up trumps with a 21 – 13 win. Although we lost the final doubles game we came out leading in the match 54 – 45.
In the singles we got off to a good start winning the first two games, but apart from Tony A’s excellent win we did not accumulate enough points to win overall. In the last match it looked as though a possible draw might result, but it was not to be and we finished 121 to Parwich, 124 to Chatsworth. A really close and most enjoyable match.
Next match – Home – Matlock Park – 24 April 1.15pm.
Why not come down to Parsons Croft and either have a go or support us when we play.
John B.
