Just in case you had missed it, this Thursday (7th May) sees a general election. In our Constituency (Derbyshire Dales) the candidates are:
- Andy Botham (Labour)
Andy was born and raised in Matlock, where he still lives with his family. Working for East Midlands Trains and an elected union official, he has been county councilor for Matlock since 2013.

- Ben Fern (Liberal Democrats)
Ben, who turns 23 this month, is the youngest person ever to fight our constituency and is the grandson of a former Headmaster of Parwich School, John Leslie Fern, who also was a Liberal county and district councilor. His grandmother Margaret Fern was a native of Tissington. (Note. Ben had contacted parwich.org with information on his nomination as Liberal Democratic candidate some time ago. Sorry Ben that we have only just got round to posting anything.)

- Patrick McLoughlin (Conservative)
Patrick has been our MP since 1986 (initially for the old constituency of West Derbyshire, and now for Derbyshire Dales) and is a Privy Councilor and Secretary of State for Transport. He will be well known to many of our readers through his constituency work. (Note. Patrick has worked for improved rural broadband in Derbyshire Dales and been a long standing supporter of parwich.org.)

- Ian Wood (Green Party)
Ian, a former lawyer, currently works as a freelance journalist. He lives with his family in Bakewell. His statement on the Green Party website includes “I would wish to see efficient enterprises – for example, those conducted by Derbyshire farmers – succeed against unduly subsidised continental ones”. He is Press Oficer for the Derbyshire Green Party.

- Amila Y’Mech (Humanity)
Amila lives in Crich. The information Amila provide Democracy Club’s CVs includes “I am a truck driver, a musician, a therapist, a designer and builder of geodesic domes, an author, and the founder of an ecological and personal growth community, Elysian Fields, which has land and for which planning permission is now being applied.” He has two children.

John was born and raised in Derbyshire, now living in Idridgehay. He has worked in local and national government in Public Health, setting up a consultancy assisting industry in regulatory compliance and the process of tendering for government work.
