PARWICH CROWN GREEN BOWLS CLUB
Having just about survived the first game of the season and the muscles and joints nearly coping it was off doing the ‘proper’ stuff this week. Considering we only lobbed a few woods around we did not do too bad.
Tuesday League
April 11 – Home – Matlock Park.
Now although Matlock Park came down from the higher division they are still a good team. We also saw the come back of all come backs from Edith and Rick. Rick, having invested a second mortgage on some new woods, was in the process of putting them on e-bay as they were losing 14-2 when the magic promised by the gnome who sold them to him kicked in. From a position of deep sorrow to a winning 21-17. They bring a lump to your throat! So having grabbed victory out of the jaws of defeat Harry and Clara showed everybody how it really should be done. They were stunning, winning at a canter 21-3. John B and Pat chipped in with a 21 – 18 win. Overall we had a really good win 79 – 59. Can we keep it up? Watch this space.
Next Match – Matlock Club – Away – 18 April.
Thursday League
April 13 – Away – Hazelwood.
Having made a real mess of the league last year by getting promoted we have the consequences to bear this year. Hazelwood have over 150 members. We have 16, yes 16!!
However with our Edith, Rick, and Dawn, together with the rest of our meagre team we can just about hold our own against virtually any team. You followers of this twaddle will recall that the Thursday League has 3 doubles and 6 singles. Edith and Rick gave us a good start in the doubles with a 21 – 10 win. Unfortunately our other pairs could not keep up the standard. After the doubles we trailed 52 – 32. John B gave us a good start in the singles winning 15 – 6. John H also did well only just losing on the last end 15 – 13. Not to be out done with the new woods Dawn A brought out her new acquisition – the Blue Meanies. At first, similar to Rick, they were not performing for their new owner. However eventually they came good. Giving us a win 15 – 5. Rick having got to grips with the new equipment, also won 15 – 4. Although we won the singles 75 – 60, we finished 5 points shy at 112 – 107. At the start of the match we would have taken that as a great result, particularly away from home on a lightening fast green. Your Club really can play this game.
Next match – Away – Youlgrave – 20 April – 1.45pm.
John B.

Sounds as if you’re on really good form the season. Best of luck to all!
