PARWICH CROWN GREEN BOWLS CLUB
Having had only one match last week, it was back to normal this. Back to normal on a number of fronts predominantly people not being available to play for one reason or another but also a welcome return of some players after injury. Still if this week is anything to go by we should be so lucky.
Tuesday League
May 9 – Home – Bakewell.
Scoring a full house (84) in this league is a good result, but to score a full house back to back is terrific. Everybody played their little socks off. Leading the way was an unlikely pairing of Dot and Harry B. They stormed home 21 – 12. Thankfully Edith and Rick were also playing to their usual standard and beat a very good Bakewell pair 21 – 13. Chipping in with a win were Tony A and John B 21 – 14. However, the game of the night was Dawn and Pat B. Talk about grabbing victory from the jaws of defeat. At first they could not get started at all and before long they were 12 – 2 down. Matters continued down hill to the point where they were 20 – 9 down. Of course the dynamic duo kept going and slowly but surely they got to 20 all. What a result, they won the next end to grab victory by 21 – 20 thus giving us our second full house two weeks running. Final outcome Parwich 84, Bakewell 59.
I don’t think we will make it three in a row though.
Next Match – Bradwell – Away – 16 May 6.30pm.
Thursday League
May 11 – Home – Bradwell.
A bit of a rehearsal for next weeks Tuesday League match and at least we had the pleasure of welcoming back a couple of our ‘crocked’ members. This helped us field 10 players this week.
We more than held our own in the doubles games with a welcome return from Liz H playing with Sue A who won 21 – 15. Ian J and Rick are becoming quite a pair, and they are not bad at bowls either. Although they lost, it was by the narrowest of margins 20 – 21. Now bearing in mind Audrey B broke her wrist only a few weeks ago to only loose, partnered by John H, by 21 – 13 words cannot express the bravery shown and fighting spirit we have! (well it looks good doesn’t it). After the doubles we were only three points down.
In the singles we grabbed four games out of the six, with Rick and John H having to play twice and winning to 3 and 6 respectively. Parwich 75, Bradwell 62.
At some point in the future we are going to have some, if not all of our wheels falling off. Next week at Hope, I think possibly so.
Next match – Away – Hope Works – 18 May – 1.45pm.
John B.
