PARWICH CROWN GREEN BOWLS CLUB
Having got three full houses in a row in the Tuesday League, what about a fourth? Not doing too shabbily in the Thursday League either. To cap it all we have a new Member for the Bowls Club. Thank you God. We have to thank him as nobody else seems to care. What a scorcher not only the weather, but on the green as well.
Tuesday League
May 23 – Home – Wirksworth.
Bear in mind that we are still a few players short for various reasons so our results are scarily good.
We shared the four games two each. Pat B playing with Tony A is in a real groove and the pair of them won at a canter 21 – 9. Dawn A, back from her holliers, playing with Harry B also won 21 – 15. Although our other two pairs lost they lost by fewer points than Wirksworth. John B and Sue A 18 – 21 and Dennis and Clara E 11 – 21 which gave us a win by 71 – 66.
After this weeks match we have moved up to third in the League. Next week we play the league leaders. Keep your fingers crossed.
Next Match – Whitworth Park – Away – 30 May 6.30pm.
Thursday League
May 25 – Home – Bakewell.
Bakewell pipped us to the top spot in the Division last year by only a few points and were promoted as champions so we wanted to try to win if we could.
Ian J partnered by Audrey B had a cracking win 21 – 16. Ian is playing particularly well this year he is rapidly becoming Scotland’s second best sportsperson after Andy Murray. Audrey has only just about recovered from her broken wrist, what a result. The other two games we lost, although Dot H and Sue A came close succumbing 17 – 21. After the doubles we were 8 points down.
John H gave us a great start in the singles winning 15 – 8, followed by an even better win by Tony A 15 – 5. Dawn, playing to her usual high standard came home 15 – 9. Our final singles win came via the equally brilliant Edith who won 15 – 10. The two remaining games we lost, but because of the aggregate wins we had we won the singles games by 18 points. Overall result, Parwich 130, Bakewell 120. This will hopefully keep us in our mid table position.
Next match – Away – Matlock Park – 1 June – 1.45pm.
John B.
