PARWICH CROWN GREEN BOWLS CLUB
I suppose you have to be careful what you wish for. There’s losing, there’s losing badly, and then there is capitulating and no money changed hands, honest! At least we got back into winning ways in one league.
Tuesday League.
June 6 – Home – Matlock Bath.
If somebody had said that it had been November 5 the previous night there would not have been any disagreement. It was pretty cold wet and miserable. To cap it all we lost really well, which was no bad thing really. We did have one astounding win with Pat and John B scoring 21 – 0. Edith and Rick also played their usual game, but they did have to come from behind to win 21 – 20. Unfortunately our other two pairs were well beaten. The final score was Parwich 56, Matlock Bath 62. To rub an enormous amount of salt into our already large sores we had 10 points deducted by Godzilla, our league secretary, because we made a tiny error in the date on the score sheet. It also meant that our opponents also had to suffer a 10 point reduction. Such is life on a Crown Green! Next week we play the top of the league and we have 4 players on holiday. Oh ‘eck!
Next Match – Ashwood Park – Away – 13 June 6.30pm.
Thursday League
June 8 – Home – Tideswell
For the first time this year we had more than 12 people who wanted to play! Bear in mind we only have 16 members all told. Tideswell were just one place ahead of us in the league with a lead of 21 points.
Our new member, Keith B played with Audrey B in the doubles and had a convincing win 21 – 10. Dennis E and Liz H also fought hard to just lose 19 – 21. Ian J playing with Dot H in the third game ricked his back very badly early on, but kept battling and they came a very creditable second. After the doubles the score was Parwich 51, Tideswell 52.
As you devotees of this scintillating editorial will know the doubles are followed by 6 singles games. We did very well with Edith and Rick each winning their respective games to 3 and 4. Only one loss here and that was by just 3 points. The singles gave us 87 to Tideswell 49. The final score Parwich 138, Tideswell 101. The 31 point win means that we will go just above them in the league.
Next match – Away – Whitworth Park – 15 June – 1.45pm.
John B.
