The longest day has come and gone. It’s all down hill from here, but hopefully not for your village bowls team. Two excellent wins this week to make up for last weeks disappointment.
Tuesday League.
June 20 – Away – Chatsworth.
Another away match, but it is a very nice place to play. Not sure why, but Chatsworth are struggling this season. We came close to a full house this week. Dot H and John B set the tone with a 21 – 12 win. Dawn and Harry B followed this up with another win 21 – 16. The ever reliable Rick and Edith gave us another brilliant win, 21 – 9. Although Sue and Tony A lost it was only by a couple of points. The final score Chatsworth 58, Parwich 82. Second half of the season next week another away match. This time we are playing the team lying second in the division.
Next Match – Matlock Park – Away – 27 June, 6.30pm.
Thursday League
June 22 – Home – Hope Works, Castleton.
Hope Works have been top of the league since the opening fixture. Could we get close to them in this match. Unfortunately the doubles again proved our downfall. Although Keith B and Clara E came close losing by 21 – 16. We only just managed 19 points from the other two games. After the doubles we were 28 points down!
Could our singles players get us back in the match? Not ‘arf. Harry B and Tony A started us off winning to 6 and 3 respectively. John B followed this up with a 15 – 3 win. Rick and Dawn needed to win well, and win well they did both getting a 15 – 11 result. Although John H lost his match it was only by 1 point. Result Parwich 89, Hope Works 49. Overall result Parwich 124, Hope Works 112. What a turnaround!
Next match – Home – Hazelwood – 29 June – 1.45pm.
We have had a couple of Club tournaments over this passed couple of weeks and some brave sole took a photo or two. The first shows Ian J and Edith victorious after winning the Square Robin. Ian looks just like the cat that’s nicked the cream, bless him. Or it could be he’s got his shower cap handy. The second picture is John H winning the cup for the Open Doubles. Now the eagle eyed of you will notice that John is on his own. Rick who was his partner in the competition is possibly standing behind John or he’d cleared off to the loo and this was the last frame on the film. Can you still get films? Anyway enjoy and well done.
Hope the weather stays good for us at the weekend and we have a bonzer Open Gardens.
John B.
