We are now on the reverse fixtures as we have started the second half of the season. Last week we played a team top of the division. This week in one league we played a team second in the division and the other match was against the top team. How would we get on?
Tuesday League.
June 27 – Away – Matlock Park.
Because of the vagaries of the fixture list this was our third away match in a row. To cap that our opponents were second top! We really do have a very good set of players in the Club. Not sure if we got new members whether they would ever get a game so good are we! Only kidding – please come and see how the game can be played. Two games each this time, it was all a question of the size of the wins or the fewer points lost. Our first two pairs did not fair well losing 21 – 8 and 21 – 11. What could our third and fourth pairs do? Captain fantastic Dawn led the way with Tony A an able partner. They came home with a win 21 – 17. Our final pair, the ones who walk on water, Rick and Edith nearly pulled off a brilliant win for the team. At one point it looked as though they were going to do it, but their opponents just managed to accumulate enough points for a Matlock win. Final score Matlock 66, Parwich 61. We were in third place in the league, but I am not sure if our 61 points this week will keep us there. Next week we play our nemesis team Matlock Golf Club.
Next Match – Matlock Golf Club – Home – 4 July – 6.30pm.
Thursday League
June 29 – Home – Hazelwood.
Having beaten the team top of the league last week we were entertaining the team who took over that mantle this week. Now bear in mind that Hazelwood have nearly 10 times our members, how would we do? Our doubles pairs did us proud. Tony A and Liz H not only played their little socks off, they played their shoes off as well, winning 21 – 9. Although Ian J and Harry B lost they battled so hard, at one point they were 20 – 4 down. They did not give in and managed to get up to double figures, just. Clara E and Dot H also kept on pegging and only just lost 21 – 18. Clara has just bought herself some new woods, just wait until she gets them on the green. Parwich 49, Hazelwood 51.
Six singles matches next. Our new member Keith got us off to a great start winning 15 – 10. The redoubtable Edith won 15 – 9. Dawn A came romping home 15 – 2. What a player she is. We had lost two of the other games and it was down to Rick playing with his Blackpool rock mint bowls. Any doubt? Not a chance he breezed home 15 – 10. Singles games, Parwich 72, Hazelwood 61. Final result Parwich 121, Hazelwood 112. I keep telling you to come and watch us!! Next week the elephant under the green club.
Next match – Away – Youlgrave – 6 July – 1.45pm.
If you get fed up with craning your neck looking for runners up Parwich Hill on Tuesday night come to the Green and cheer your bowls team on. Enjoy ‘wakes’ whatever you do.
