The 27th – 29th January 2018 is the RSPB’s annual Big Garden Birdwatch. To take part in the official RSPB survey Click here
Or alternatively take part in the Parwich wildlife survey and log your bird and wildlife sightings in Alsop, Ballidon, Pikehall and Parwich over the 27th – 29th January weekend by adding your observations to the comments at the bottom of this post.
After recent sightings of ring-necked parakeets in the village who knows what you may discover.

In the time it took to consume a large pot of coffee we had the following visitors to our garden.

House Sparrow (M & F)
Tree sparrow (M & F)
Dunnock
Jackdaw
Collared dove (pair ?)

I always feel that there are fewer birds about on the Bird Watch weekend than normal. Here are the frequent and infrequent garden visitors not seen yesterday:
Green finch
Gold finch
Chaffinch
Long tailed tit
Pied wagtail
Crow
Magpie
Raven (very occasional, maybe seen once a year)
Greater spotted woodpecker
Treecreeper
Nuthatch
Buzzard (often seen over Parwich Hill)
Sparrow hawk
We were saying the same Peter, after I submitted my sightings down came the Great Spotted Woodpecker and we had a fleeting visit from a sparrow hawk!
I got around that problem by spending an hour looking out into the garden last weekend (ooops!) and only discovered my mistake when I went to log my sightings on here!
Anyway for the record I had-
Goldfinch
Goldcrest
Blue Tit
Great Tit
Wren
Dunnock
Robin
Jackdaw
Blackbird
Redwing
House Sparrow
Chaffinch
Wood Pigeon
Collared Dove
Nice seeing a Goldcrest Steve, also had a female blackcap on the fat feeder this afternoon.
The Blackcap came back so I managed to get a rather blurry photo through the sitting room window.
Lovely pics and interesting lists – similar to mine but there are a couple we don’t see e.g. redwing. – Ali Battye
