PARWICH CROWN GREEN BOWLS CLUB
Its the silly season as far as Parwich Bowls Club is concerned as people start going on holiday for some reason. Always a problem because of our tiny membership. However certain individuals play unexpectedly blinding games of bowls!
Tuesday League.
Home – Ashwood Park – 8 May – 6.00pm
We always have close matches against Ashwood and it’s hard to know why because they are such nice folk! We shared the games two each. Dennis and Clara came up against a really good pair and unfortunately came second. The magic married pair Tony and Sue A also came unstuck. I think they were too concerned with catching their flight early next morning to the Costa Packet. For once Pat and John B sorted themselves out and stormed to a 21 – 6 win. Rick without his faithful sidekick Edith played with Harry B. Harry at times can be so consistent it’s annoying. Anyway they got us our second win 21 – 16. When all the arithmetic had been done we lost the match by one point! Parwich 63, Ashwood 64.
Next Match – Away – Matlock Bath – 15 May – 6.00pm.
Thursday Friendly League.
Home – Bakewell – 10 May – 1.45pm.
At one point it seemed that we might be penalised for having less than 9 players, but people appeared from behind hedges and rocks and we finished up with 10.
Frances W and Harry B plucked victory from the jaws of defeat with a 21 – 17 win. At one point they were 17 – 5 down. What a comeback. John H and Keith B also did us proud winning in style 21 – 6. Although Clara and Dennis played well they unfortunately lost 21 – 6. Not the end of the world however as we were leading 54 – 44.
Now there are people who are great and there are other people who have greatness thrust upon them. Two members who do not normally play singles had, because of our shortage of players, to play in the singles. And play they did! I cannot recall Audrey B ever playing a singles, but what a game. Talk about hide your light under a bowls mat, Audrey stormed to victory 15 – 9. Pat B dashing back from a meeting in Buxton played her little socks off winning 15 – 11 against one of Bakewell’s star players. Astonishing. So with this brave and faithful few we finished up Parwich 74, Bakewell 75. If at the start of the games you said that would be the outcome, you would, as they say, have taken their hand off. Final result Parwich 128, Bakewell 119. Enjoy your holidays!
Next Match – Home – Wirksworth – 17 May – 1.45pm.
p.s. Don’t forget Stuart to get there by 1.00 ish.
John B
