The Parish Council has been in correspondence with the Highways’ Authority at Derbyshire County Council regarding road safety issues in the village.
The following points have been highlighted and suggested responses received.
The Parish Council has been asked to comment these suggestions and will discuss them at next week’s meeting on the 13th of February. If you would like to comment on either of these suggestions please contact the Clerk.

Vehicles become stuck or causing damage at the junction between Creamery Lane and Kiln Lane.

“It remains somewhat confusing as to why any HGV drivers should wish to leave the main road through Parwich unless they had specific business, deliveries etc. to conduct along Kiln Lane or Creamery Lane. Regardless of this, it would clearly appear unwise for any such driver to consider undertaking a manoeuvre between the two roads. Of course, HGVs are prohibited from entering the 7.5 tonne zone around Parwich, Alsop and Tissington unless the driver has a legitimate reason for doing so.
In most situations, householders arranging home deliveries online have an option at the checkout stage to inform delivery drivers of the difficulties they may expect to encounter at the junction along with possible recommended routes to individual properties. I would therefore advise all residents to make use of such facilities wherever offered.
I acknowledge, however, that the layout and gradient of the junction between Kiln Lane and Creamery Lane dictates that it is unsuitable to be considered as a through route, even for car drivers who are also likely to experience difficulty in negotiating the junction in one single manoeuvre.
I note that the top section of Creamery Lane has advisory “Unsuitable for motors” signs mounted at each end of the section between Monsdale Lane and Gibbonsbank. The sign near Gibbonsbank may arguably be better positioned at the Kiln Lane / Main Road junction whilst the sign at the Monsdale Lane end (at which point it is clearly apparent that the road – despite remaining as a public highway – is not suitable to be driven along) may then be repositioned underneath the narrow road sign at the Creamery Lane / Monsdale Lane junction.
It is hoped and expected that the relocated signs will deter drivers unfamiliar with the area from considering using either stretch of road as a through route.”

” …whilst visiting Creamery Lane I became aware of the numerous, large “Playground” warning signs near to the tennis courts / recreation area. Whilst being quite unsightly in terms of the local built environment, I would question the appropriateness of their installation given that Creamery Lane is very lightly trafficked and that there does not appear to be an actual playground at that location.
With my previous commitment to the Parish Council to consider warning signing near the Smithy Close playground in mind, and with the government’s requirement upon local highway authorities to reduce sign clutter wherever possible, I would suggest that the four warning signs around Orchard View could be removed whilst appropriately sized “Playground” signs could be installed on each approach to the playground along Main Road.”
