Recently, OpenReach sent this letter out to homes in the village. The more households who show an interest in getting ultrafast fibre broadband in the village the sooner we’ll get it. The upgrade covers Parwich, Pikehall and Alsop en le Dale. Whether you choose to pay for the extra speed is up to you, but unless we get the infrastructure installed in the village, we won’t have the choice. At the moment the response rate is around 20% which is not enough. You can register directly at: www.openreach.co.uk/connectmycommunity

I’ve been in touch with the Digital Derbyshire Team who are working with OpenReach and the Government to improve broadband in rural communities. We didn’t receive a letter nor could we pledge to the scheme and it appears that there are other properties not in Parwich itself but are served by the exchange that haven’t been included in the Scheme. It’s really important to pledge or register your interest with Digital Derbyshire if like us you have been missed out of being counted amongst properties eligible to pledge. Once the target of pledges is reached I understand that the build to connect us all must be completed in 12 months. The number of pledges is gradually increasing but still far short of the numbers needed. If you haven’t pledged already I’d urge you to do so, and if you aren’t able to pledge I e-mailed broadband@derbyshire.gov.uk and hooefully they can help lodge your interest.
