Julian Sklar (Ian McKellen) is a once-legendary London painter
whose reputation has faded. He spends his days making money by recording snarky, personalized video messages for fans and judging amateur art competitions.
His opportunistic children, Barnaby and Sallie (James Corden and Jessica Gunning), realize their father may not live long. They hire Lori Butler (Michaela Coel), a struggling artist and restoration expert, to pose as Julian’s assistant and secretly finish an abandoned third series of “The Christophers”—portraits he originally painted of a cherished former lover.
But Julian is far sharper than his children think. He quickly discovers Lori’s true identity and the plot behind it, leading to an evolving, witty intellectual duel and an unlikely friendship as they navigate questions of artistic value, legacy, and deception
