Colin Simms

Colin Simms ashes were laid to rest alongside those of his wife Christine in the churchyard of St Peter’s, Parwich after a service on Sunday taken by the Rev. Nicola McNally.

Many will remember Colin as a founder of the successful display team the Red Barrows Squadron which competed in the village carnival winning first prize. “Commanders”  Roy Millward and Roger Cundy carried a replica Red Barrow with flowers into St Peter’s.

Photos include Colin in 2018 accompanied by his security detail Stuart Chambers.

Starring the wonderful Anthony Hopkins as Freud, the film is set on the eve of WWII and towards the end of his life. Freud invites iconic author C.S. Lewis (Matthew Goode) for a debate over the existence of God. Exploring Freud’s unique relationship with his daughter Anna and Lewis’ unconventional romance with his best friend’s mother, the film interweaves past, present and fantasy, bursting from the confines of Freud’s study on a dynamic journey. Freud called upon the young Oxford don to appear before him to discuss the ideas of his recent book which paints Freud as an arrogant and ignorant materialist. Over several meetings and days, the two geniuses discuss their lives and worldviews as they grapple with the most difficult questions of life — the existence of God, the nature of suffering, the morality of sex and sexuality, the inevitability of death, and the ethics of suicide.

Village show

It was a great day at the village show, with a good range of entries in the adult classes. Some fierce competition especially in  the best and longest runner beans, some beautiful entries in the craft and floral displays and excellent baking! Congratulations to all the winners.

Our thanks to our local guest judges, to our friends for helping out, to the committee for organising and most of all to the growers, crafters, bakers and photographers in the village for all their inspiring entries.

Thanks Nina

Plant Stall Success

Thank you to all who bought plants over the bank holiday weekend. In total, including a donation, £130 was raised for St. Peter’s Church.

Once all the cash has been received, the money will be transferred to the Church, without any reservation, but in the hope that if the suggestion to situate a composting toilet in the church yard takes off that this can be used to support that project.
