Based on a true story by the naturalist, Helen McDonald, the film explores how when Helen’s father passes away, she is knocked sideways by grief and loses herself in memories of their time birding and exploring the natural world together. She becomes obsessed with the idea of training her own goshawk, and so she brings the fearsome bird Mabel home to her life as an academic at Cambridge University.

Helen fills the freezer with hawk food and turns off her phone, ready to embark on the long, strange business of trying to train this wildest of animals. But as she labours to tame Mabel, a grieving Helen undergoes an untaming of her own. A record of a spiritual journey, H IS FOR HAWK is a story about memory and nature and how it might be possible to reconcile death with life and love. Starring Claire Foy and Brendan Gleeson.

Oscar- tipped Hamnet is a romantic historical drama focusing on the fictionalized life of William Shakespeare (Paul Mescal) and his wife, Agnes (Award winner Jessie Buckley). Based on Maggie O’Farrell’s novel, the film explores their courtship in Warwickshire and the devastating, visceral grief they endure following the death of their 11-year-old son, Hamnet, from the plague in 1596. A healer, Agnes must find strength to care for her surviving children.

Agnes Shakespeare is struck with intense grief. As she mourns with her husband William, the pair struggle to come to terms with the frailty of life and the ruthlessness of the plague.

Guardian 5 star review***** Paul Mescal and Jessie Buckley beguile and captivate in audacious Shakespearean tragedy

February Parwich Film Show THE ROSES

Life seems easy for picture-perfect couple Ivy (Olivia Colman) and Theo (Benedict Cumberbatch): successful careers, a loving marriage, great kids. But beneath the façade of their supposed ideal life, a storm is brewing – as Theo’s career nosedives while Ivy’s own ambitions take off, a tinderbox of fierce competition and hidden resentment ignites. THE ROSES is a reimagining of the 1989 classic film The War of the Roses, based on the novel by Warren Adler.

“This remake of the 80s divorce farce is “a piercing black comedy” that is “played with droll perfection” by Benedict Cumberbatch and Olivia Colman” BBC Film Reviews

Games and puzzles for school

As it’s been so wet recently the school are on the look out for some new games/puzzles suitable for 4-11 year olds to use for indoor play and at after school clubs. Anything that you no longer use but is in good condition, doesn’t take long to set up or play would be greatly appreciated. You could either drop them off at school or I can pick them up, just drop me an email lucywigley@googlemail.com. Thanks Lucy M
