Parwich Village Action Group – Affordable Housing
Provision of affordable housing has consistently been seen as a high priority in our surveys (83% of respondents in 2000 and 86% in 2003). The following was included in the 2004 Management Plan:
- Ensure provision and continued availability of low cost housing in the village.
- Support the Nottingham Community Housing Association development on the Schoolhouse site.
- Review the need for further affordable housing in the village, when appropriate, and respond to the outcomes of that review.
Obviously since then the Parson’s Croft houses have been completed and are now occupied. Also Dales Hosing sought planning permission for additional housing at Rathbone Croft and Smithy Close. These applications were withdrawn because the Peak District National Park Planners recommended refusal on the grounds of both design and lack of demonstrated need.
Approaches from ourselves to the Housing Associations and the Housing Authority (Derbyshire Dales District Council) indicated that given a lack of response in our area to the last county wide housing needs survey any further initiative would need to come from us.
A public meeting in the Parwich in 2008 demonstrated that there was need for a small number of family homes and a future need for young adults wanting to set up home in the coming years.
Derbyshire Dales District Council will support funding requests at the level of one dwelling for every three currently required, which is difficult in small communities such as ours where need fluctuates, because families can not wait around for houses not yet planned.
Thought needs to be given to possible buildings suitable for conversion to affordable housing or sites in Parwich suitable for building new houses. It may also be that looking at need over a larger area including such as Alsop, Pikehall and Ballidon may produce a less fluctuating level of need.
