Many thanks to Emma Spence (Pond Cottage) for supplying us with this post.
A huge amount of support and genuine concern has been expressed by people from all over the village relating to Carolyn. Most know by now that Carolyn suffered from a stroke last Wednesday and is currently recovering in the Derby Royal Infirmary.
With so many people asking after Carolyn it was thought (following agreement from Howard) that a good way to keep her friends updated on her progress would be to make use of our community website. One of the main ideas behind this is that Howard can keep us informed by sending updates to be posted on the website. Another purpose for this is that we can use the “comment” facility to leave messages that Howard can take and read to Carolyn to help her recovery. We can also use the comment facility to ask questions. A few of the questions you might have wanted to ask are answered below.
Although perhaps an unusual way to use our website, I hope this is useful to many of you and not considered inappropriate.
Howard has asked me to say thank you to everyone who has sent cards to Carolyn. He and Carolyn have opened and read each one together during his daily visits.
Some questions answered:
Q: Is Carolyn OK?
A: Carolyn is stable, comfortable and making daily improvements. Clearly what happened will take some time to fully recover from and Howard will keep us updated on her progress.
Q: What ward is Carolyn on?
A: She’s currently in Ward 9 but is expected to move to the Re-hab Ward next week.
Q: Is it OK to send flowers?
A: Not for the moment, Howard will update us when this changes.
Q: Can I send her anything / does she need anything?
A: Not for the moment, Howard will update us when this changes.
Q: When can she have visitors?
A: Howard will let you know when she can have visitors.
Please keep an eye on PARWICH.ORG for more information, including forthcoming news of a way in which we can all help.

Just when I thought this web-site/blog idea had reached it’s zenith of usefulness, along comes this.
I just hope that Carolyn will be able to log on soon, and enjoy (!) the ramblings of (in no particualr order) Bill, Pheadair, Jane, Mike A, Jonathan, Jack, Graham, Mike H, Peter T, Christopher, Emma S, Jack, etc. etc….
Carolyn and Howard – you know our thoughts are with you.
G&A (and the rest of Parwich, I have no doubt).
…..And not forgeting the elusive and engimatic Bob, of course!
Get well soon Carolyn!

It has been suggested that photos of people and places Carolyn knows are taken into hospital for her. Partly to help her keep in touch and also so she can let the numerous new people (nurses, therapists, etc) know something about herself. If you have any images you think would be useful email them to parwich@hotmail.co.uk and we will forward them to Howard. Also I will be in the pub on Thursday evening with a camera so I can photograph anyone who is willing. (Please clearly mark them as photos for Carolyn so we can ensure none are used on this site, that is unless the sender specifically wants them to be.)
There is also the opportunity to record a short message for Carolyn until it is the right time for us all to visit in person. If you would like to do this Mike Atkinson has offered to ‘do the technology’ and record all messages between 2pm and 4pm at Creamery Cottage, Creamery Lane on Saturday afternoon. These will be transferred onto a CD and given to Howard. This hopefully will be another way for her to keep in touch and know we are all thinking about her.
Get well soon Carolyn…we miss you…the boys need sweets and 50p for the pool table!
Hi Carolyn – as you can see, all your friends in Parwich are thinking about you so although you might feel as if you are miles away you are really only a thought away. Just to keep you in touch with your beloved countryside I can tell you that it is one of those pale grey, chilly days that we get at the end of winter when the birds and flowers are desperate to get going at the first hint of sunshine. We look forward to seeing you and the sun together back home.
If you want to record a message for Carolyn but can’t get up the hill on Saturday afternoon to Creamery Cottage, there will be a dictaphone behind the bar in the pub from Friday morning. So you can also record messages onto this and Mike will transfer them to the/another CD when it is full.
Thanks to Mike for making all of this possible.
Carolyn – hope you enjoy the image of everyone collectively thinking of you on Saturday afternoon, may it speed up your recovery. Ax
Amanda: So that nobody misses it, I’ll be putting the “recording session” info on a second Carolyn post in the near future. – Mike
