Hi all,
Don’t know if it is too short of notice to suggest this, but being in America has reminded me of the good old fashioned American money raising staple: the “garage” or “yard” sale.
I wonder if people who perhaps aren’t opening their gardens would want to do a yard sale, then give the proceeds to Project Parwich?
Mind you – it is all a bit rich coming from me as I shall just be returning home then!
Cheers,
Debs
It would be too short notice to organise anything officially this year, but if it was confirmed with Horticultural Society (our AGM is in November) it would make sense for fund-raising events running on the Open Gardens day to be included on the 2009 Gardens Programme, which would still be within the Project Parwich year.
Fiona H from bonny Scotland suggested a similar idea to Debbie to raise money for Project Parwich, she called it a Bargain Hunt!
Fiona comments how other villages (Brassington, Hognaston and Kniveton) sell anything! at their gateway/in their garage/garden. This can be anything and any quantity, children’s toys, clothes, books, household goods to furniture, plants, eggs, cakes, craft items etc. As at the Open Gardens, a plan of the village showing where there are goods for sale can be sold. Markers/ballons can be used to identify the relevant houses. Those selling can donate a percentage to Project Parwich – even those who did not want to donate to PP could participate as it would increase the size of the attraction.
