In today’s (25th June 2008) Ashbbourne News Telegraph are the following our readers might find of interest:
P.6 A great page feature on Sunday’s Children’s Show (even though I say it myself). Seriously with four photos, a big thank you to the paper for including the results in full. Everyone including the children worked really hard, so it is good to get the recognition.
P.7 The 13th World Toe Wrestling Championship is to take place at the Bentley Brook Inn on Friday (6pm to 9pm). TV coverage and celebrities! However make sure you are not too hung over to enjoy Wakes Saturday.
P.9 Councillor Ray Caswell is to step down from Ashbourne Town Council because of ill health. Many will know Mr Caswell. We would like to take this opportunity to send Mr Caswell our best wishes, and look forward to his continued excellent representation of our ward (Dovedale Ward) on the County Council.
P.17 The public enquiry on the proposed wind farm on Carsington Pastures is to take start on Tuesday 1st July at the Derbyshire Dales District Council offices in Matlock. It will continue into the following week. It seems incredible that a commercial scheme could be considered in such an environmentally and historically sensitive location right on the National Park boundary, with considerable local opposition, when small scale domestic turbines, some with significant local and national support, are almost automatically rejected within the Park.
P.19 Kniveton well-dressing last weekend were on the theme of recycling. (There is too much happening at this time of year.)
P. 23 The article on stock judging for Ashbourne Young Farmers Club as always continues several familiar names. It is heartening to see youngsters like Ben C knowing what they are interested in and making a success of it. (For information on the Club and their meetings contact their Chair Jo Adams on 07855_814291.)
P.23 There is another Parwich name (Heather H) in QEGS’ Challenge Team that has been placed amongst the top 12 schools in the country. Note QEGS are looking for sponsorship to help take the team to the finals in Northumberland in September.
P.54 Summer Football
P.55 Report on Pikehall harness racing
P.56 The Hill Race next Tuesday, starts outside the Sycamore Inn, potential runners should ring 01629_732004
As always do let us know about anything we have missed.

The 8) was not intentional, but as I quite like it I have left it.
