We have received two emails from Sandra Yould in Australia, who is researching the Calladines of Parwich and Alsop:
I just googled Parwich and found your site. May I congratulate you all. It’s great – I even had a play with the jigsaw puzzles! (My husband’s CALLADINE ancestors lived in Parwich and many are buried there. We actually visited the lovely village for a day in 1999.)
and secondly
now that you have offered it would be nice if you could say something about a ‘down under’ cousin seeking information on the Calladines of Parwich and Alsop.
My email address is sandyyd@tpg.com.au
So if you have any information on the Calladines of Parwich and Alsop do add a comment below or contact Sandy Yould. For more information on our local history see Parwich & District Local History Society.

I know its totally off topic, but since the floods, the blog is now famous for its up to the minute news reporting.
What was all the kerfuffel with the fire engines and the billowing black smoke tonight???
I used to work with someone called Calladine in Derby.
I had a friend called Jane Calladine when I was about 7 -she had a chopper bike which I really coveted, but she wouldn’t let me ride it. My bike didn’t even have inflatable tyres!
This was in New Mills, Derbyshire circa 1970.
Dear Sandra,
There seem quite a few villages in Derbyshire where the Calladine name seems to predominate. My own family originates from Wessingtonalso in Derbyshire..I know there are groupings in Belper and we even get into one of D.H.Lawrence’s book The Lost Girl where Mr.Calladine is the Chapel caretaker. As Lawrence drew on local characters this would put him at Eastwood on the Derby/Notts border.
If you can tie your branch in with mine I have a great deal of family history relating to the latter half of the 19th centuary and the 20th. including both world wars,
Best Wishes with your quest ,
Cliff Calladine
There is a gentleman called Ronnie Calladine who lived in Parwich, who was associated with Mrs Catherine Waynes family. Ronnie, I believe now lives in Ashbourne.
