NEWS RELEASE FROM PEAK CONNECTIONS
PR 534 – 1st October 2008
Explore the Peak District with Bruce the bus or Tess the train
Children can help plan days out across the Peak District with a new family-friendly leaflet featuring Bruce the bus and Tess the train. The “Hop on and Explore” leaflet is part of a Peak Connections campaign to encourage families with younger children to use public transport when visiting the area.
Peak Connections officer Carol Lavell said:
The leaflet features lots of family-friendly places to visit, accompanied by “green” facts and tips for children on how to plan a bus journey.
In the centre is a Peak District map with cheerful graphics highlighting bus and train routes. It all encourages children to get involved in planning a journey and becomes part of the enjoyment of a family day out, with the bonus of cutting pollution and congestion.
The leaflet also features fun activities including a Word Search competition with an environmental theme. Successful completion entitles children to a free gift and opportunity to enter a free prize draw for a family ticket to Crich Tramway Museum or Chatsworth. “Hop on and Explore” is available from visitor centres across the Peak District or people can download a copy from www.visitpeakdistrict.com/peakconnections
Peak Connections is a partnership project to encourage more people to use public transport in and around the greater Peak District. It is supported by the Peak District Sustainable Development Fund and SPITS (South Pennine Integrated Transport Strategy).
Peak Connections also produces “Ride and Ramble,” a guidebook offering the ‘green’ way to roam, with 20 linear walks through beautiful Peak District scenery, all linked to bus or train-services. “Ride and Ramble” costs £6.95 from visitor centres in and around the Peak District or online at www.nationalparks.gov.uk/pdshop
