Here are some local comments:
Mike Gerard-Pearse, elected Chairman of the Parwich Memorial Management Committee and Chairman of the Steering Group for the New Build Project.
I am thrilled to hear that we have been successful in our BLF bid. It is a wonderful Christmas present for the village and the very many people that have worked so hard for this project. The village will now be able to build the new hall that it wants. It will enable our lively community to continue to thrive socially and to include all its members, young and old, in the many activities that will take place. Importantly, let us not forget that the new Memorial Hall will also be continuing our tradition of commemorating those villagers who gave their lives for us in both world wars.
Brian Beasley, Chair of Funding Sub-Group.
Primarily I am delighted to hear of our successful bid because now the village will be able to build the hall it wants and needs which would not have been possible without the BLF. We still have a big task ahead, the current economic crisis makes raising the remaining funds needed something of a challenge but I am confident that this very public commitment from the BLF will help us.
Sandra Chadfield, elected Committee member of the Parwich Memorial Committee.
Absolutely brilliant – I have sat on this committee wearing one hat or another for over 18 years. During that time we have spent 10 years talking about the various options of extensions or new build and the last 4 years actually planning for this new build project. I am pleased that I have been able to be involved in both the building of our old hall and now in the new build. The old hall has served us well but it is worn out and it is now time for us all to be involved once again in building our New Memorial Hall.

I am really pleased that we have the lottery money. Good luck to all those people that have worked so hard to get if for the village. I think it will be a great benefit to the village, more economical to run and I am looking forward to all the activities for the over 60’s that I shall be able to go to.
Giles Hetherington. Parwich resident and father of three young children.
It shows community commitment to the future, longevity and spirit of the village. For us it gives confidence that the village will have the facilities to allow what is a great community spirit to survive and thrive”

Half a million quid for Parwich!!!!!
That is fantastic news.
Congratulations to all involved in this supreme effort – this news couldn’t come at a better time.
Just shows what positive attitude and application can achieve.
Well done and thank you to all who worked so hard for all our benefit.
Well done to all whose hard work has gained our villages this fantastic grant. What a Christmas present!
Also congratulations to Over Haddon for also gaining a substantial grant allocation today. They have been going through the same process at the same time as ourselves. They also plan to demolish and re-build their Hall, had their planning application initially recommended for refusal, but then passed.
Thank you all so much for all your hard efforts — an extraordinary achievement – especially as most of you also have full time ‘other jobs’ – thank you for your time and determination.
Yippee! Check out this weblink – we got the largest grant in the country!!
To collectively secure half a million pounds’ worth of public funding is no small feat, to put it mildly. In fact, it’s a staggering achievement. Before the next set of hurdles loom into view, perhaps a brief period of celebration might be in order? Well done and thank you to everyone involved!
Hearty thanks to all those concerned, what a great award for our community.
Congratulations to everyone that was involved especially to the steering committee team, none of us will ever fully appreciate how many hours of work, how much effort & how many tears were shed to enable our small village to achieve this momentus success – £500,000!!
Never was so much owed by so many to so few… I’ve pinched Churchill’s famous words, but the sentiment is true & appropriate because we must remember that this new village hall is being re-built in the memory of those who gave their lives during the two wars – and a very fitting remembrance which will allow future generations to enjoy the many activities which take place in Parwich.
Fabulous news.
Well done to all involved, this is a huge amount of money to be awarded to such a small community. It must have taken a lot of hard work so a big thank you to all who helped.
Congratualions Parwich!

Dear all
What wonderful news at a time when there is so much doom and gloom around, there does not seem to be much to Celebrate these days.
I suppose it will be all systems go in the new year, Narendra and Jim are hoping to visit Parwich in January and I will try to get along sometime during the day.
Best wishes for the festive season
Chris Carr,
