A number of villagers have expressed concern over the state of the B5056 near the Bentley Brook.
Mike H says:
Does anybody else feel as concerned as I do at the rate at which the road is slipping at the temporary traffic lights by the Bentley Brook?
The road sinks further week by week and the fissure gets wider and wider. It seems to me that there is a serious risk that the road may be closed if a further substantial movement occurs. This would cause severe inconvenience to all Parwichians as well as those who use the B5056.
Leaving the road to deteriorate in my opinion is likely to cost the Council (us!) far more money and may cause serious disruption. A stitch in time……
Graham says:
I don’t understand what is happening. I think there is a really serious risk now of the road collapsing while someone is driving over it. It is most likely to be a wagon (on the basis that 1 HGV passage is equivalent to approx. 10,000 cars), so all drivers must beware, but particularly the lorry drivers.
This road is a key link, and it’s about time the Highway Authority took control and did something positive to restore it properly.
In the event of a catastrophe, there is plenty of evidence to support a negligence claim here.
Lynne says:
I wonder whether Longcliffe and Tarmac would be interested in lobbying the council because their lorries must by the ones most likely to fall off the road – they would also be affected financially if the road were to be closed and all those lorries had to go the long way round.
Nick S says:
In my estimation the whole section of road near the Bentley Brook Hotel is going to collapse in the next month or so, meaning a more scenic run to Ashbourne via Bradbourne or Tissington – not sure how many sets of temporary lights that involves at the moment, but I am sure the County Council will rig a few sets up to keep us on our toes.
Sandra S says:
Because so many people from Parwich travel on the B5056 past the Bentley Brook pub, would they please be mindful that where the road sinks on a regular basis just prior to the pub, there is actually a gaping gap under the road there. One day, the road will give – and on a selfish note, I just hope that I am not the one travelling by at the time. Has anyone noticed the wall listing?
Lorries pass on the opposite side to the pub laden with goods. On the way back, they are empty. I am certain that if they were laden coming back, then many more places on the B5056 would be at risk.

hi,the road b5056 needs now to be given urgent attention by the authorites, while on duty last week i received a call from the controller at east mids ambulance to attend to a casualty in ashbourne, this i would have gladly done if not for the crappy road down to the town, somebodys life was at stake and we couldnt attend,we cover quite a large area sometimes, all in the name of helping the local community,on reflection all the roads in our area need to be updated as i remember them in a far better condition 25 yrs ago,you could actually learn to drive without hitting all the potholes, now you need a degree in road maintainence to drive around here, over the years while on my travels i have come to the conclution that parwich area has most of the worst roads, does anyone agree, also, far better signage needs to be implimented and obtained by the councils ,ie-chesnut cottages=no’s1 to 9.too many times now recently i have seen the emergency sevices wandering around trying to find the address,
