We have heard, via the Parish Council, that the section of the B5056 next to the Bentley Brook – where the road is slipping away – is to be closed for two weeks from 16 to 30 June. This is to allow the problem to be investigated rather than fixed. Who knows what will happen after that?

Do we know how Highways Plan to divert traffic?
Parwich Open Gardens is on Sunday 21st June and Wakes begins on Saturday 27th with the Hill Race presumably on Tuesday 30th June; all times when the roads are full of pedestrians and with Wakes when events are happening in the streets.
This is the worst fortnight possible for increased traffic in Parwich.
The timing could not be worse, and should be reconsidered. Perhaps those who decided the closure were not aware of Wakes and open gardens?
Can we as a community (sure the Parish Council are doing this anyway) put pressure on the County, including our potential Councillors that we:-
1. don’t want traffic diverted through the village
2. how to stop any traffic that may try to cut through
Ideas for how we could do this?
We have heard from the Parish Council who were not consulted about this closure. Highways are planning to divert traffic along the Via Gellia to Newhaven and the A515; they did not see it as effecting Parwich. Does this mean that lorries from Ballidon going south will have to first go north on the B5056 to Grange Mill, along the Via Gellia to the A515 and then south?
The Parish Council have now received the diversion notice which is displayed on the notice board outside the Memorial Hall and will be posted here in the next day or so.
Highways currently hope that the B5056 will re-open before the start of Wakes (only being closed from 16th to 23rd), but there is always the risk that they decide the road is not safe enough to re-open. The actual repairs when they take place could result in an eighteen month road closure.
See the post above for the up to date details on the closure: https://parwich.org/2009/05/19/roads-repairs-and-closures/
