Here are some photos of the landslip on the B5056. The contractors are currently moving a drill into place over the subsided section of road to establish what is happening underground.
When visiting the site to take these photos, the workmen told us the road will stay closed over the weekend. This was confirmed by Highways at County Hall, countering their previous information. Parwich Open Gardens traffic coming from Ashbourne on Sunday will need to take the A515 through Fenny Bentley and enter the village through Alsop en le Dale. The current official plans are for the road to re-open on Tuesday evening (23rd June), though the men on site were surprised the road had not previously been closed longer term pending the full repairs.
Highways have sign posted ‘no through road for HGVs‘ for Parwich and Tissington.
However today travelling along the Alsop Lane there seemed a lot more traffic and at one point I met a large lorry, requiring a reverse of some 300+ yards to find a place wide enough for it to pass. This may or may not be related to the B5056 closure, but do let us know if you have any problems or observe increases in traffic through Alsop and Parwich.

having had a small accident involving myself and a bulk liquid carrier HGV. on this b5056 road at a disused rail bridge near baildon, could you tell me if there are any weight restrictions or any restrictions to disuade HGV’s from using this road
best regards Ian Peters
The B5056 is essential to a number of quarries, which are the main local employers. Such as Ballidon quarry have no other practical access, so weight restrictions on the road are not an option.
North from Longcliffe, from the old High Peak Railway bridge, the road is wider and able to cope with the traffic it must carry. However, I would argue, the road through this bridge and on south requires similar widening.
Repairs to the subsidence are essential, but Highways should also look at possible upgrades to the route as a whole.
