The closure of the B5056 just north of the Bentley Brook Inn at Fenny Bentley is likely to continue into next year.
The Blog Team spoke to Derbyshire County Council Highways Department this morning.
The Consultants, who investigated the landslip when the road was closed in June, have indicated four possible options. The County Council are deciding which option to go ahead with, though the currently preferred one involves sinking piles into the hillside to stabilise the landslip. They hope that work will start in 3 or 4 months, but then the work is likely to take another 3 or 4 months. Their website has a projected end date in May 2010, though presumably this will be subject to updating once they have finalised the programme of work and assuming that there is no dramatic further landslip.
Highways will keep us informed of their plans and let us know when they have a more concrete time scale.
Please note there is also a further planned temporary closure of the B5056 at Longcliffe between 1st and 16th October. This will be by Curzon Lodge, north of the crossroads at Longcliffe.
In relation to information on road closures Derbyshire County Council Highways Southern Area can be contacted on tel. 01629 580000 ext. 7664.
These last photos taken at about 12-30pm today are for Colin; this should answer your question. It should be pointed out that the slippage here is ongoing and further movement is very likely, especially during or after heavy or prolonged rain (i.e. most of the time this ‘summer’).
As always feel free to add your comments on this issue, or share any tips or problems on alternative routes with other readers.

question: does ‘access only’ include access to Parwich for residents?
If the road is closed at the Bentley Brook end until at least 2010 and there is a planned closure of the same road at Longcliffe what will happen to the official diversion route for HGV’s?
My other concern is that this will further delay emergency services getting to Parwich and the surrounding areas as even going through Alsop or Bradbourne an extra 10 minutes is added.
Since the Longcliffe closure will be north of the crossroads, I shouldn’t think it would further affect the HGV traffic to and from Ballidon, as the quarry lorries will still be able to access the B5056/Via Gellia junction…?
The Longcliffe closure will be well south of the Grange Mill / Holly Bush crossroads so lorries from Ballidon will not be able to access the Via Gellia except by going on unclassified roads through Ardwark or Brassington or over Carsington Pastures. The Carsington Pastures route is not too bad for heavy traffic and avoids any villages, but it is completely in the wrong direction for the A515 (north or south).
Highways have confirmed they are aware of the potential problems of the two closures on the B5056. The Longcliffe closure will only be for two days at some time between the 1st and 16th of October.
Highways are in contact with Ballidon quarry and during the second closure lorries will be diverted towards Brassington at the Longcliffe crossroads, then along Manystones Lane over Carsington Pastures and onto the Via Gellia (A5012) by Ryder Point, which will avoid any villages.
Also today Highways have placed more substantial barriers to ensure the closure at the Fenny Bentley landslip.
