The temporary closure of the B5056 at Curzon Lodge north of Longcliffe will be for longer than anticipated, because of the condition of the existing road surface is poorer that expected requiring replacement of a larger area.
During the closure traffic going north will need to divert towards Brassington at the Longcliffe crossroads, then along Manystones Lane over Carsington Pastures and onto the Via Gellia (A5012) by Ryder Point. Alternatively cars can go the other way at the crossroads towards Aldwark reaching the Via Gellia west of Grange Mill.
The contractors anticipate that next week’s closure will be from AM Tuesday 6th to PM Friday 9th of October. We will update if there is any further information.

It feels like the day is coming when all the roads to Parwich will be shut. We’ll turn into one of those Amazon tribes that no other humans see for years on end and Ray Mears will come and do programmes about us.
Don’t worry Lynne, There’s still a route in via Buxton (!) There’s at least a couple of series there for Ray and Sir Richard to get their teeth into before they start on us…..
With the other road works on the A515 as well as the B5056, it does feel we are being surrounded by traffic lights and closed roads. Lynne’s comments about significant impact on our community also have a serious side.
At PARWICH.ORG we have tended to focus on the convenience and safety aspects of the road closures. For most of us that is all that impacts on us, but for some there is also a real threat to their livelihood with the disappearance of passing trade or increased travel time and transport costs.
Is there anything that can be done to support local businesses during the road closures? Can the rest of us use these businesses more?
Presumably the general increase in road works is a deliberate government response to the down turn in the economy, which is great for the contractors, however these companies are not necessarily based locally. Does this have a potential positive effect on the local quarries and other businesses, or is it out weighed by the negative?
If they add any more roadworks or close any more roads I’d better conside a home birth as I will never get to the hospital on time!!!
