Hasn’t it been a wonderful autumn for weddings, and today the Blog was sent the following:
“What a beautiful village!” “I thought villages like this existed only in novels”, “What a wonderful church – it’s so well looked after”. “How lucky you are to live here.” “Isn’t everyone so friendly?” “What an idyllic setting for a wedding.”
These were just some of the comments that our guests (from all over the world) made when they came to Cassie and Dan’s wedding. They are right, it is a wonderful church and village but it takes many (unseen) hands to make a happy occasion such as this.
Even Christopher Harrison found the most beautiful apposite poem about a wedding surrounded by green fields, called ‘Epithalamium’ by Francis Warner, to use in his address at the wedding.
So with the help of the blog may we say thank you to our particular unsung heroes, who worked so hard to help make the church beautiful for Cassie and Dan’s wedding. We make no apology for some very flagrant advertising for some of our local craftsmen and women who deserve our support.
Thanks to, Mick Edge, Rob Clarke, Ben Bennett, Graham Johnson, Ian Bradshaw and Lynette Coyne who mowed and strimmed the churchyard and tidied the path until not a blade of grass was out of place. Stuart Chambers, who with great cheerfulness prepared the church, greeted everyone and indulged his pyromaniac tendencies by lighting 24 candles. Thanks to Don Keyworth our former Sycamore landlord, who stepped in and rang the carillon with great expertise and our organist Christine Williams.
Many thanks to our talented, resident joiner, David Goldstraw who made and donated a cover for the font so that it could be used for flower decorations for our wedding and any other future church celebrations. We were very happy that Christopher Harrison returned to conduct such a sincere and thoughtful ceremony. (By the way congratulations to Christopher’s son Peter who has just won an organ scholarship to Clare College, Cambridge)
We also want to thank our resident and cheerful florist, Delia Wayne who did the beautiful flowers on the end of the pews. (Delia is very talented and can provide the most marvellous flowers for any occasion), to our always helpful builders, ‘The Marshalls’ who can turn their hand to anything but on this occasion helped to ensure that the flowers above the entrance porch did not fall on unsuspecting guests.
Thank you, Rosy Chambers (for tea and chocolate cake) and Katherine Bunting for cleaning and polishing the church so that it glowed in the afternoon sun. Thanks also to our Parwich unofficial village recorder, John Fuller Sessions who made the most marvellous minute-by-minute photographic diary and also to our resident authoress and make-up artist Joanne Jewitt who gave Alice and Cassie a make-up lesson for the Big Day. And finally to Janet at the Sycamore, for donating her huge teapot and ensuring that the groom and his supporters stayed (relatively) sober for the event.
Many thanks to you and other village friends for helping to make the day so special.
Brian and Patti Beasley, Dan and Cassie (now) Hawkins.
