What is the best route into Ashbourne in this weather?
Best route to Ashbourne is probably to Alsop and down the A515.
I have travelled out this morning just before 8am, and the Alsop road was not great (but navigable)for 2 wheel drive, but OK for 4WD. Once you get onto the main roads its fine. That includes the A515 north to Buxton and beyond.
Its not the going that’s such a problem – it’s the stopping!!
The road from Parwich to the B5056 hasn’t been gritted, and so it was icy in places (9:30 am Monday) – but still perfectly navigable. The B5056 itself was fine. The lane that connects Bradbourne to Carsington Water was very icy in places, and quite treacherous at times, but still manageable.
