A new website has been launched to help keep Derbyshire residents prepared and informed before, during and after major incidents such as severe weather and flooding. The site is called ‘Derbyshire Prepared’ and will include up-to-the minute information about ongoing incidents, useful contacts and advice for residents and businesses.
It has been developed by members of Derbyshire’s Local Resilience Forum (LRF) – the police and emergency services, Derbyshire County Council, city, district and borough councils, health agencies, the Environment Agency and Highways Agency. These groups already work together to manage incidents like severe weather, flooding, large fires, chemical spills or explosions but the website will allow residents to check information quickly and easily in one place.
The website features a range of information including:
* Safety tips and advice to help residents be well prepared for an emergency
* Advice and support for businesses on preparing business continuity plans
* Information for anyone organising a large community event
* The emergency plans Derbyshire has in place to deal with any major incident
* How to sign up to a community messaging service which can send residents text or e-mail alerts about incidents in their post code area
* Useful contacts and links to other relevant websites & incidents in the county and the new website will help get information out quickly and efficiently.
Residents are encouraged to sign up to the community messaging service to receive phone or e-mail alerts if incidents happen where they live. Anyone can receive these alerts and they are often very useful. We do publish relevant ones on the blog.

It occurs to me that we in Parwich already have this facility through the enterprising, dedicated team that introduced and maintain http://www.parwich.org. And without wanting to sound too political (danger of political overdose this week) – it hasn’t cost the hard pressed tax payer a bean.
