I don’t know about anyone else in Parwich, but personally I get at least one unwanted marketing telephone call every day.
I don’t like being rude to these people who have a sad job making cold calls for a living.
They probably get lots of abuse and phones slammed down in the middle of their pitch. Not a fun way to earn a living.
But I also don’t want to receive their nuisance calls.
Did you know there is help at hand?
The Telephone Preference Service is free and allows you to opt out of receiving unsolicited sales or marketing calls.
Its quick and easy to register your phone number. You can find all the details on www.tpsonline.org.uk
I registered my phone number today, but have yet to find how effective it is.

We registered with the Telephone Preference Service in Nottingham a few years ago, and since then the number of unsolicited calls has dropped to almost zero – so I’d definitely recommend this service.
Like Keith, we receive a large number of unsolicited calls in Parwich, but we’ve never got round to registering with the TPS here. This reminds me that we should. Particularly irritating are the pre-recorded announcements that clog up our voicemail, and the call centre operatives who regularly ring up asking to speak to our predecessor at this address, who passed away thirteen years ago. Nothing we that say to them ever succeeds in removing this person from their databases.
We also registered with the Telephone Preference Service several years ago and until recently we had very few calls. Unfortunately, during the past few months we have been receiving an increasing number of calls, – does anyone know why this should be? Are these perhaps from companies using operatives based abroad?
Brian when we originally registered with the TPS we were led to understand that it would need to be renewed after six months, so that may be the answer (reminds me that we need to again!).
I politely ask then to hold on, and let them listen to Classic FM for half an hour or so.
We have been registered with TPS for a number of years and have no problems with UK marketing calls, BUT… they do not stop international calls from coming through, I have no solution for that other than getting my 4 year old to answer the phone!!!
You do need to re-register with TPS after 12 months.
