If you are a resident of Parwich, Alsop, Ballidon or Pikehall, then we would welcome your answers to a few questions relating to your broadband service.
Your input could be useful to anyone who is planning to install a broadband service, and also to anyone who might be considering changing providers.
Please leave your replies in the comments box.
1. Which broadband provider do you use?
2. How much do they charge?
3. Was your service easy to set up and install, or did you experience any problems?
4. How would you rate your service in terms of reliability? For example, have you experienced any interruptions to your service?
5. How happy are you with the speed of your broadband line? Note that you can use speedtest.net to check your current download and upload speeds.
6. How would you rate your provider in terms of customer service? For example, have they solved your problems and/or queries quickly and efficiently?
7. How would you rate your broadband provider in terms of value for money?
8. On a scale of 1 (lowest) to 5 (highest), how satisfied are you with your broadband service?
1. We have BT Broadband Option 2
2. We are charged £17.99 per month plus £13.29 per month for line rental. This include free evening and weekend calls, so a total of £31.28. We also have BT Vision for digital TV, recording and playback of live TV. This costs £6.99 per month. We’ve had it for about 2.5 years now.
3. The wireless modem and the BT Vision box were pretty easy to install.
4. Initially there were a lot of problems with both the broadband and BT Vision with the signals dropping out frequently. Over the last 18 months the service has been very reliable indeed.
5. BT Broadband quote “up to 20 Mb download speeds” for Option 2. However, when we measured it we got 5.2 Mb download and 0.31 Mb upload. That said, the performance at these speeds is still pretty good.
6. Customer service is reasonable, but the number of options that you have to select when dialling the customer support line is frustrating in the extreme. Bills from BT are immensely confusing and the layout is always changing which makes me mistrustful of the bills.
7. The service is now very reliable, but I think very expensive (I look forward to seeing comparisons on this post).
8. Score 3.5. Good service marred by high charges and confusion over billing.
hi,i am with sky now after being with pipex for 8 years, until they were bought out by talk talk, never have anything to do with talk talk, they are rip off merchants,i have the job lot from sky, been no trouble, what you must remember is bt informed me that there are not enough subscribers in the parwich area to make it worth there while going fully broadband,so you will find you are wasting your money until bt spend theres,5.3 to 6.6 is about average,we are all on dial up as only the exchange is digital,if everybody cancelled and gave bt some hassle then maybe they would sort it out,sky checked this out for me as well and proved it to me,so you get the router but its on dial up.bt said when it goes digital, nothing to do with the tv going digital, they would have to install fibre optic cable and its expensive, its the price you pay for living in the rural parts of derbys, but thats a small price to pay for clean air,,
We’re with Plusnet on the pro package, which gives a prioritised connection. It costs about £16 a month. Not had any problems at all and bandwidth is excellent. Not measured what we get but large files download fast and Iplayer runs smoothly every time. Happy customer.
we use Talk Talk, supposedly free, but because our Parwich exchange is not “bundled”, we have to pay £15 per month. then pay £12 for line and £10.49 for all calls, anytime, including internationaL
did not use their set up
service OK, sometimes slow (on Sundays)
BT are extending their fibre network nationally to improve broadband speed. As the Parwich Exchange has less than 1000 users the chances of getting speed improvements are very low, but if 75% of the users at the exchange show an interest, BT say they will “engage with the community to see what they can do to improve things”. That means we need 289 votes! Here is the link to express yours:

I’ve just cast my vote on the Race To Infinity site that Mike H mentions above – you have to enter your post code, then click a pink VOTE NOW button on a subsequent page. We now have a grand total of THREE votes for speed improvements on our exchange – hey, only 286 votes to go!
