Thank you to everyone who provided information on conditions yesterday. It would be useful to do the same again today.
Please keep the village posted on the state of the roads in and around the village by using the commenting facility on this post. You can also use the blog to let people know if you need help or can provide any assistance to others.

Any news on the roads into the village, Matt is going to attempt to get back from Coventry today, he has 4WD but only about 4 inches ground clearance on the car.
Hi, does anybody know if the buses are still running to Ashbourne today?
Our intrepid groom has managed to get here from Derby – not in a 4×4! She says the worst bit is between the village and the B road – passable with care.
Just had an aborted attempt to get to Buxton which involved a detour via a large snow drift and ditch, which some very kind lads helped me out of.
The A515 probably should be closed, as the snow is both falling and blowing across the road as fast as the ploughs can deal with it.
It ain’t fun up there!
Jo’s gone to work in Duffield this morning, travelling via Ashbourne. She had no problems (4×4 with road tyres) but reports that it is snowing heavily in Duffield.
Alex, there is some bus-related info on the BBC Derby site (CLICK HERE) – the Ashbourne service is not listed as being affected.
Thanks Patti, which way did she come?
The Buxton Weather site has this report on the A515, from a reader at Parsley Hay:
“Snow showers overnight but depth is still average 35cm – a bit difficult to judge as there are so many deeper drifts. It has stopped snowing but drifting is causing serious hazards and reducing exposed areas to single lane or less. Truck drivers driving north say it is very slow going and comment from the gritter driver who has just driven south was ‘hopeless” conditions from Buxton south. It looks like it will be the same problem as last night with the snow ploughs/gritters clearing a section and the wind drifting the snow across the road again. I will let you know if conditions improve.”

515 closed at Tissington Rakes Lane from http://www.bbc.co.uk/travelnews/derby/
Gill – she came on the A52 but she has now gone home early to try to avoid the abondoned cars that collect during the day.
Stuart C has gone successfully to Matlock in a 4WD
Hi All, not been home since Sunday. Can I drive into village from Ashbourne in ordinary car at the moment? Hope you are all having fun – pictures look great.
Can anyone make a collection for the Shop in Ashbourne? Janet got into Derby to the wholesalers this morning (well done Janet, bread and milk are much appreciated), but did not have time to stop off in Ashbourne, because of opening up.
If you are going to Ashbourne and can do a collection please ring 390212.
Update from the A515 at Parsley Hay, via Buxton Weather:
“Conditions worse. It has been snowing heavily most of the morning, with continued blizzards and drifting hazards. Very few vehicles still on the move – just the odd tractor, quarry truck or 4×4.”
More on the A515, also via Buxton Weather:
“A515 to Ashbourne -Wouldn’t even attempt it without a 4×4 and know how to drive one. I had my diffs locked and was still sliding on the packed snow sections. Saw a few of them get stuck through over confidence, too much heavy braking and too much acceleration. Road becomes single track and is very hard to see in blizzards if anything is coming the other way, especially on bends and hill crests. There are large drifts either side so great care is needed with lorries coming the other way. Got as far as 3 miles before Fenny Bentley then the road was closed by the police due to an accident. There was a mile long queue of lorries. I had chains with me but didn’t use them though I would have put them on eventually if there had been somewhere to stop”
A515 now cleared and re-opened at Tissington.
2/12/2010 – Due to the continuing adverse weather conditions and hazardous roads, school will be closed on Friday 3rd December.
We look forward to seeing everyone on Monday morning.
Thank you
