I think they must be quite common as we have them too. They seem to like the hulled sunflower seeds which are in the feeders and also spread on an old cheese press. As yet I haven’t seen them fighting but they appear to favour the cheese press which has plenty of room for several birds at one time.
I’ve had Goldfinches coming to the feeders at both ends of the village. They especially love Niger seed and if you look across the fields when the dandelions clock and the thistles produce seed you’ll see them there too.
