Winter may seem a little way off but it is only 11 weeks to the same time that we were hit by the freezing weather and deep snow in 2010. Derbyshire County Council has opened a consultation document asking for our views about improving the gritting of the roads. Plans for our community appear to be no different from in previous years, but please do go online and submit your views by Wednesday 12th October. These forms can also be picked up from the library.

The primary roads planned to be gritted are A515 and the B5056.
The primary network map would:
Be treated during the day and night and would be ‘pre-treated’ before bad weather hits. Gritting would continue 24 hours a day if necessary, as at present.
Roads within residential areas would generally not be included.
Secondary roads include the road through the village from B5056 to the A515 via Alsop, Mill Lane and Brackendale Lane at Bradbourne.
The secondary network map would:
Only be treated in the day with the first run being completed by mid-morning. This would help overcome problems of parked cars getting in the way of gritter vehicles being able to do their job on residential roads at night.
Be pre-treated before bad weather hits, where possible, but primary routes will take priority.
Teritary routes includes Highway Lane and Parwich Lane to Pikehall, the road to Ballidon, the road in front of the school and more interesting up and over Lenscliffe.
The tertiary network map would:
Mainly involve external contractors such as farmers clearing snow, but not necessarily gritting, on some roads we don’t currently cover
