Our Weatherman in the Village says:
As I write, this the weather could not have been less kind to Open Gardens today – I would be surprised if we see anyone out – but looking at the Met Office radar, it just might be a bit drier this afternoon.
The outlook for the start of the working week is looking good, with warm dry conditions prevailing Monday through Wednesday. Unfortunately, as we run up to Wakes, the forecast is looking more changeable. I always feel that any forecast beyond 4 or 5 days is guesswork, so let’s just hope in ignorance…

Hello I just feel I need to comment about my husband and myself visiting lovely Parwich open gardens yesterday. We arrived outside the memorial hall slightly early at 13.50 in pouring rain. We were standing with another couple but the doors were still locked with the people sorting out the tickets and plants busying themselves inside. We made ourselves known to these people by knocking on the door but were told matter of fact that they do not open until 14.00. I do feel this was very unsociable bearing in mind the weather conditions. It would have been a lovely start to the afternoon if they had opened the doors and just let us wait in the foyer until 14.00. As the main purpose of the afternoon was to raise money a good social attitude would not go amiss.
Regards Cynthia Arme
I wasn’t in Parwich yesterday, but one problem with early opening of the Hall is that the judging of the Children’s Show takes place at lunch time. The Horticultural Society seeks to use the same standard of judging in this Show as is used in all full horticultural shows, which means that only judges and other authorised people are allowed in the Hall during judging.
As a former Horticultural Society Committee Member, I know that the Society strives to make visitors as welcome as possible, but that they are bound by the external judging standards. However it is a shame that your visit to Parwich was marred by this.
I overheard the “Weatherman in the Village” predicting dry, fine and pleasant weather conditions for Wakes weekend. – Hope he’s right!
