A quite superb and beautiful photo John – well done indeed! I shall miss our swallows and martins as they gradually fade away to return to their Winter feeding grounds in Southern Africa. We wish them well as they prepare to navigate their perilous journey across an ever-growing Sahara Desert. And we await their triumphant return next Spring. This year I saw many more swallows than last – conversely, fewer house martins and far swifts.
I quite agree Anthony – about the photo and the swallows. We have had about nine nests this year with some pairs breeding several times. The last are just fledging now and it won’t be long before they are all ganging up on the roof in a noisy throng to start their journey south. It always depresses me because I know that summer is coming to an end. Still, we shall have John’s lovely photos to remind us.
