Derbyshire Dales businesses online to success
A series of free training events for businesses across the Derbyshire Dales kicks in this month as part of the Digital Derbyshire Business Support programme.
An evening workshop entitled ‘Developing a Local Online Marketing Strategy’ takes place at Callow Hall, Ashbourne on Wednesday 14 May, with online booking available at http://www.ebusinessclub.biz
Digital Derbyshire is a £27m programme being led by Derbyshire County Council to improve broadband across the county. The County Council has signed a contract with BT to make fibre broadband available to over 95% of Derbyshire homes and businesses by 2016.
Alongside the roll-out, Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire Chamber (DNCC) is delivering the Digital Derbyshire Business Support programme to help educate businesses about the benefits and opportunities superfast broadband and new ICT technologies can bring, and how to use them to improve business performance.
Leader of Derbyshire Dales District Council, Councillor Lewis Rose OBE said: “Businesses with a local customer base have a wide range of online marketing options available to them. The right choices of what to use are very much dependent on the type of business.
“This first event of the series in Ashbourne will help businesses understand the mechanics and potential costs of each marketing channel and what is likely to work best for their kind of business, from coupon-style offer websites to advertising on Facebook or Google.”
In particular, the event will cover:
- The importance of mobile – mobile-friendly websites and location-based online services
- Local search optimisation
- Social media marketing for small businesses – how to get people talking and engage with them
- Using coupon sites to promote offers
- Building an email list and utilising it effectively
Social Media workshops will follow at the Town Hall in Matlock on 10 and 16 June.
The Dales events have been organised with the help of Derbyshire Dales Business Advice, the District Council’s free independent advice service, which is helping local businesses grow. Run by professional business adviser Heather Bradford, the service provides face to face support to Dales businesses, with priority given to those with growth potential.
