Tomorrow (Thursday 22nd May) sees the elections for the European Parliament. Local polling is in the Meeting Room at the Memorial Hall from 7am to 10pm. On our ballot paper we cast a single vote for our preferred political party. The nine parties contesting our region are:
- Labour
- Conservative
- Liberal Democrat
- UKIP
- Green Party
- BNP
- English Democrats
- An Independence from Europe
- Harmony
Our region returns five MEPs. Parties are allocated seats on a quota basis on the basis of their proportion of the total vote (see About My Vote). A party’s first seat goes to the first candidate on their list, a second seat to their second candidate and so on. The candidate list for each of the parties standing in the East Midlands region are as follows:

John Youatt, a Green Party campaigner and local government candidate has been citing parwich.org as an example of good practice in encouraging local democracy:
Given the poor response in the last European election from the candidates we contacted, the Blog Team decided not to bother contacting candidates prior to this election. But, as flattery gets you everywhere, here is information that John Youatt on behalf of the Green Party sent us:
