Programme for “Parwich Remembers – a commemoration of the start of World War One”
8-30 p.m: An exhibition of pictures & details of Parwich men who enlisted & took part in World War One. Many of these details have recently been uncovered by members of the History Society who have been visiting the Magic Attic in Swadlincote,
9-15 p.m: An illustrated talk in the Memorial Hall, entitled “Parwich at War, 1914 to 1918.” This will include details of how everyday life in the village in those years & how it was affected by the War, together with stories & details of some of the men who went off to war.
Members of some of the older Parwich families may be interested to hear the stories of some of their ancestors.
10.30 p.m: Torchlight procession to the War Memorial.
Rev Ian Aldersley will lead a short service of Remembrance at the War Memorial which will include the reading of the names of all known Parwich men who took part in the War.
This will be followed by the extinguishing of the candles, save one, as we recall the words of Edward Grey:
“The lamps are going out all over Europe; we shall not see them lit again in our lifetime,”
