7th January situation
Our bin teams have now completed the catch up both of domestic waste and recycling collections missed because of snow and ice over the festive period.
We are aware that in some northern areas of the district – including small parts of Tideswell and Litton – a few properties expecting the recycling catch-up have been missed as we reached capacity on the collection truck.
A double recycling collection will now happen in these areas on Monday and our advice, with high winds forecast, is to take your recycling bags/bins inside or take measures to protect them from the elements. For Monday’s collection, you can leave extra recycling in untied plastic bags (not black bin bags please) or suitable plastic containers (please separate paper and cardboard from other recycling materials, ideally bundled up or in boxes).
Our apologies again for any inconvenience.
We explained in yesterday’s email update that excessive amounts of domestic waste are slowing down scheduled collections and this was the case again today. If we missed your usual Wednesday collection, we’ll be back tomorrow.
We’ve had plenty of messages from residents about the catch-up – both complimentary and not-so-complimentary – but we do want to thank you for your patience and understanding.
A common complaint is that we should have gritted roads better to enable bin collections to take place after the snowfall. Please note however that the District Council isn’t responsible for gritting roads. That’s the difficult task of Derbyshire County Council – we are two separate organisations.
Thanks again – and please check your 2015 waste and recycling collections timetable via our postcode search.
* If you still have a lot of post-Christmas waste to dispose of, please use local household waste recycling centres if you can.

Over at the Alsop end of the village Rob and I have only had the green bins emptied. The blue recycling bin (due to be emptied last week) and the grey bin (due to be emptied today) have not been touched – is that just us or is the rest of the village in the same situation?
We are the same Emma. I have had to load up the car today and send Matt to the recycling centre as we were getting overrun with cardboard.
I think it is the whole village. My blue one wasn’t emptied last week and nothing has been emptied today. Fingers crossed for tomorrow!
If the worse thing that happens to me today is that my wheelie isn’t emptied then things aren’t so bad 😊. Thank you too the teams on the dustcarts for their Stirling effort.
At risk of completely submerging the pudding in egg, here is a ‘clarification’ of the above email from the District Council. The situation for us seems to be that the missed recycling collections (blue and green bins) will not happen until next week, though the Council still aim to get the general refuse (grey bin) collected this week.
7th January situation – clarification
Apologies if our email earlier today (above) caused any confusion. For clarification, we should have stated that the catch-up had happened for all domestic waste and those recycling areas listed in our Monday update.
In Monday’s email we did state that all remaining recycling collections had been cancelled apart from some areas in the north of the district, including Tideswell, Taddington and surrounding villages.
We tried to get around that area today, but unfortunately couldn’t get to all the recycling, so remaining properties will get a ‘double’ recycling collection on Monday, as will all remaining missed recycling properties, starting this Friday in Stoney Middleton, Curbar, Calver, parts of Darley Dale and Beeley. Because extra collections are anticipated, this might run into Saturday.
‘Double’ recycling collections will also take place in other missed areas next week – including Bakewell, Parwich, Youlgrave and Brassington.
All of the above information was issued in our Monday e-newsletter.
While we remain confident that the domestic waste catch-up is now complete, if by any chance we have missed you, please report this using this quick online form.
Thanks Peter.
You put your blue bin out, and your blue bin in
Grey out, green in, and give them all a spin ….
You do the hokey cokey and you’ll be sure to win!
Haaa … the hokey cokey etc. etc.
Thank you to Peter and the Blog team for trying to keep us informed, even if it is with the help of a pudding and an egg …!? PS: Was that a Christmas pudding, Peter?
So has everyone had their black bin and food bin collected in Parwich? Ours wasn’t done yesterday or today but I don’t know if that’s the same for the whole village.
Going by the amount of bins still outside houses when I just drove up the village, I’d say nobody’s has been collected.
OK that’s brilliant, thank you Cheryl – if it’s everyone then there’s hope!
