BT have resolved the capacity issues at the Parwich exchange and are now connecting new customers to broadband. (I was connected this lunch time.) Also for those not wanting to rely on phone lines W3Z are currently extending their coverage of our area so more people will be able to get a signal.

enjoy your 5mb download speed lol
Faster than I used to get with aol TalkTalk.
We have agreed an elevated location for a new W3Z Access Point in the centre of the village and will be able to offer circa 90% of the ‘true’ village 20Mb/s GUARANTEED within 4 weeks with low cost telephone, without wires, if needed, even retaining your old BT number (£7 a month including standard calls to 01,02 and 03) for the phone element (see http://www.vonage.co.uk) All BT Land line rental charges totally eliminated. We carry all the vonage kit with us.
No more of this ‘up to’ !
I have been an taken a close look at Pikehall is detail today – far more difficult than suggested – I don’t want to raise false hopes there :()
Ran out of time for Alsop – I will look at that on Bank Holiday Monday when I get bored…
Good progress in Flagg and Monyash today!
That was blindingly fast Ian, congratulations! Did Arqiva relent on sharing their existing infrastructure for the benefit of the local community at a fair co-location price, or have you been able to get agreement to the erection of an AP on the spire of St Peter’s?
Whilst it’s understandable that Arqiva would want to see a return on their investment when agreeing to piggy-backing arrangements, it’s pretty deplorable of them to charge the egregious fees you cited in your earlier posts.
One wonders why the Peak District National Park Authority, when granting planning permission for these infrastructure projects, doesn’t impose conditions on the costs of third-party co-location, for it is not hard to see that this kind of greed works against the interests of whole communities. It’s an attitude which inevitably provokes further regulatory intervention. And it makes no sense to duplicate infrastructure, especially in National Parks where visual intrusions in the landscape are rightly, tightly, controlled.
OFCOM has already insisted on the equitable sharing of cellular phone mast assets for the benefit of everyone, and I’m guessing broadband wireless Internet access will be the next item on their agenda.
@ Ian, that’s great news, my mother lives in parwich and when i visit her most days and weekends I find the connection is eye watering, never mind the mobile signal, for me back at home i get 80 mb down and 20 up, I wish you all the best !!
