As can be seen from Ian Sneap’s comment on a previous post here, W3Z are extending their wireless broadband service to Parwich village. They are installing an additional relay on a private house in Creamery Lane which means over 85% of Parwich will be able to utilise their service. Click here to visit the W3Z website.
(With BT having resolved the capacity issues in the Parwich exchange, their plans to provide later this year a super fast fibre optic connection, and with the W3Z super fast wireless option open to more in the next week, hopefully things can only get better.)
Thanks Peter, and W3Z’s Ian Sneap, whose energy and enterprise is admirable.
Peter, I’m curious regarding your announcement that BT plans to get a fibre optic connection to Parwich “later this year”. This is major news. Could you provide a link to further details?
Up at Alsop, my expectations are limited – namely, nowt. This is OK, for it would be unreasonable to dig up two miles of Dam Lane for the benefit of the few souls who live here.
Anthony I was basing the local timescale on fibre optic broadband on information given over the phone by the executive complaints officer who had been dealing with my own broadband issues, and on information Steve J had previously found on the Digital Derbyshire website.
However checking the Digital Derbyshire site just now (see http://www.digitalderbyshire.org.uk/where_when/Postcode-Checker.asp ), they are now saying sometime between “now and the end of 2017“.
Also BT Open Reach’s site (see http://www.superfast-openreach.co.uk/where-and-when/ ) gives the confusing information that it is “in your area but we can’t tell by your postcode/number if you can get it right now” and that “Exchange name: Parwich – We’re keen to bring Superfast Fibre to your area and are exploring how best to achieve that. We may deliver it as part of our commercial programme, or by working in partnership with your local authority. At the moment you can’t order Superfast Fibre.“
I reckon they’ll put fibre optic in when they lay the gas pipeline!
Cutting to the quick W3Z went live as promised from Creamery Lane at 14:00 today, exactly as promised. No grant needed.
Come on Parwich !
Cheers
Ian
Thanks for the clarification Peter and Ian. And congratulations to W3Z on their swift response to Parwich’s broadband needs. I have no connection with W3Z, but from what I’ve seen here in terms of rural super-fast broadband provision, their performance has been exemplary.
“No grant needed” to achieve this you say. By contrast, 28 million pounds have been set aside for the “Digital Derbyshire” project. Discuss…
