Could this be what Peter T was describing? The water (such as it is) disappears down this hole and can be heard gurgling underground. This was also the site where the digger broke the pipe in the brook last year. Although it was repaired could this be relevant to the water vanishing underground completely at this point or is it just a co-incidence? Fiona H
Found- a plughole!

Spot on Fiona. I do not think the break in the pipe was repaired. A big slab has just been placed on top of the damage. The water from the pond has drained into the hole as it did last year. I am not sure who is responsible for getting this problem sorted. Any ideas anyone?
A useful temporary measure is just to go out with a trowel and play dams in the brook course, by building up mud/pebbles upstream from the hole and clear some of the weed and mud to channel the water round it. I did this a couple of years ago.
Long term this needs to be discussed with the Parish Council, who are responsible for the registered village greens (inc. Nether Green).
where exactly is this hole. There is a culvert which runs under the brook in places, I repaired a hole some years ago.
This is brief….I will be bringing this up tonight at the parish council meeting, John FS is emailing me some photos of the possible cause, it is very important that this is dealt with as soon as possible. we will keep you notified to its solution.
