PARWICH CROWN GREEN BOWLS CLUB
Having needed to be dolled up like Nanook of the North last week the weather made playing really good. The top side was that we also won! The downside was that yet again we only had the bare minimum of players, 9. Not by choice I would point out but of necessity. 7 of our 16 members could not play, not because they did not want to, but illness, accidents, or holidays had made them unavailable. It is really becoming almost embarrassing when we play on a Thursday. We turn up with 9 players to a Club which has 70+ members. To adjust an old call ‘ YOUR BOWLS CLUB NEEDS YOU!!’ Having had a membership rant we only had one match this week. Because there are only 11 teams in the Tuesday League we play in we had a blank week.
Tuesday League
May 2 – Blank week.
Next Match – Bakewell – Home – 9 May 6.30pm.
Thursday League.
May 4 – Away – Hathersage
You see you people who sit at home twiddling your thumbs wondering what you have got to do next, could be sitting in what has got to be one of the best, if not thee best, settings in the Peak District, and to cap it all you could be playing Crown Green Bowls! The vista from the green at Hathersage is awesome. It is worth the membership fee just to look at it. If in addition you have got a few really good, I mean really really good, players then heaven is a place on earth!
Three players on our side had to play twice because of our lack of numbers. In the doubles Dot and Tony A got us off to a good start winning 21 – 15, matched by Ian J and Rick. Ian played particularly well. Although they did not win, Sue A and Edith still only just lost 21 – 16. After the doubles we were ahead, 58 – 51.
The 6 singles games were shared 3 each. Dawn A polishing the Blue Meanies to perfection winning 15 – 5. Even John B managed to get in on the act with a 15 – 7 win. Rick having played a blinder in the doubles, playing with what he calls his red and white striped ‘Blackpool Rock’ woods, also gave us a win 15 – 12. The other games also provided us some valuable points even though our players lost. The result of the singles in the end could not have been closer, Parwich 70, Hathersage 69.
Having sat in a splendid place the cake was liberally iced with a win for Parwich 128 – 120.
Next match – Home – Bradwell – 11 May – 1.45pm.
We are playing one of our friendly matches this Sunday at Hazelwood. You don’t know what you are missing.
COME AND JOIN US – WE NEED YOU – ( DESPERATELY ).
